Greg Westfall
Artist Bio
I am a self-taught artist working primarily with acrylic and silk screen techniques. For my large-scale pieces, I developed a unique process that mimics the effect of silkscreen: painting the substrate first, then layering black to complete the composition, creating depth, texture, and visual impact.
Born and raised in Texas and Florida, I bring decades of life and professional experience to my work. Since graduating law school in 1993, I have practiced as a criminal defense and human rights attorney, including 25 years of death penalty litigation. During my legal career, I became fascinated with the power of images—how they can convey complex ideas and evoke meaning in ways words cannot. This exploration of visual storytelling ultimately led me to focus on art, where concept and image intersect to create impactful work.
Artist Statement — Greg Westfall
Photography has been a foundational element of my art since I was 13. Early experiments with infrared and HDR photography opened the door to the work I create today, shaping my eye for composition, light, and narrative.
Animals have always played a central role in my art. I feel a deep connection to them, and they serve as unexpected storytellers, often highlighting irony, humor, or introspection. A goldfish poised before a bank of microphones, three vividly colored wolves out of their element, a solitary horse at a party—each image is meant to provoke thought, spark curiosity, and evoke emotion. Through my work, I aim to create moments that linger, inviting viewers to engage with both the whimsy and depth of the stories animals can tell.
