Artist Statement — Lyndera Pinder
I was born on the island of Grand Bahama, and the colors, rhythms, and natural beauty of The Bahamas continue to shape my artistic language. Although I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Administration from the University of The Bahamas, my journey as an artist has been largely self-taught—guided by experimentation, intuition, and a deep desire to translate emotion into form.
Working primarily in semi-realism and abstraction, I use vibrant colors, layered patterns, and luminous light as extensions of both my personality and my cultural heritage. My palette reflects the warmth of the sun, the clarity of turquoise waters, and the energy of island life. Color, for me, is not decorative—it is expressive and symbolic.
Much of my work explores life through the eyes of a child. I am interested in innocence, wonder, vulnerability, and unfiltered truth. By returning to that perspective, I seek to create spaces where viewers can reconnect with curiosity, imagination, and emotional honesty.
As a painter, musician, and graphic designer, I approach creativity as a multidisciplinary dialogue. Rhythm influences my brushwork; design informs my composition. Each piece becomes a conversation between structure and spontaneity, realism and abstraction, memory and imagination.
Now based in Nassau, I continue to create work that honors Bahamian culture while inviting universal connection—celebrating light, resilience, and the beauty of seeing the world with fresh eyes.
